Sermon for Sunday, April 28, 2024
Title: Purposeful Frustration
Text: Genesis 11:1-9
Key Idea(s): God mercifully frustrates our tongues so hearts find the right tune.

Point 1) God-less Hearts (Gen 11:1-4)
-Seems Good –Unity and Motivated to Be Together
-Yet, God-less! It is against God’s design to 1) Make a Name and 2) Fill the Earth (Gen 1:26-28)
-God-less hearts can say and do humanistically good things that put us farther away from God’s designs
-Application: Need for Discernment

Point 2) Frustrated Languages (Gen 11:5-9; Acts 2:5-8)
-Designed by God as a mercy and guardrail
-Keeps us from some evils and slows us down to see our need for God
-Application: Humble ourselves before God first before trying to tackle a language-divided

Point 3) Tuned Hearts (Phil 2:9-11, Rev 5:9-10, 7:9-10)
-The name to unite every heart is Jesus (Genesis 11:4, Phil 2)
-God keeps languages as part of His heavenly designs
-With hearts tuned to Jesus, the languages sing a new song together
-Application: Celebrate languages and cultures. No one language or culture defines the Church. Only practices that help us see more of our need for Jesus define the Church
