2023 Osgoode Cup - Final Round

For the first time since 2020, the Osgoode Cup was back in person, and it was exciting! Over 100 teams mooted R v Tessier in four preliminary rounds, with the top 16 teams moving on to Sunday's knockout rounds.

The winners of the 2023 Osgoode Cup are McMaster University's Navya Sheth and Lesha Shah, the third straight win for McMaster University - a hat-trick!

The tournament’s Keynote speaker was Lisa Johnson, the Director of the Innocence Project at Osgoode Hall Law School, who also served as a judge during the tournament weekend. Special guests of the tournament included Professor Faisal Bhabha from Osgoode Hall Law School, who presided over our final panel as Chief Justice, Marcel Malfitano, the 2009 Winner of the Osgoode Cup, and Mya Rimon, Assistant Dean of Osgoode Hall Law School.

Over 100 esteemed lawyers, judges, paralegals and law students from across the country volunteered their time as judges. We welcomed the likes of Omar Ha-Radeye (Department of Justice); Spencer Thompson (Gowling WLG); Jessica Jakubowski (Dentons); Anil Singh (Assistant Crown Attorney) and Katrina Crocker (Henein Hutchison Robitaille LLP. Our bench also welcomed some of Canada’s brightest law students – many of them Osgoode Cup alumni – from schools including Osgoode Hall Law School, University of Toronto, Queen’s University, McGill University, and the University of Windsor.
