Lee Yong-dae (Hangul: 이용대; Hanja: 李龍大; Korean pronunciation: [i.joŋ.dɛ̝]; born 11 September 1988) is a professional badminton player from South Korea who had been successful in both men's and mixed doubles. He reached world number 1 ranking with 4 different partners, Jung Jae-sung, Ko Sung-hyun and Yoo Yeon-seong in men's doubles, and Lee Hyo-jung in mixed doubles. He won a total of 43 Superseries titles, 37 in the men's doubles, the most of any doubles player in one discipline, and 6 in mixed doubles. He was ranked world number 1 in men's doubles for 117 consecutive weeks with his last partner, Yoo Yeon-seong.

After winning the 2016 Korean Superseries with Yoo, Lee announced his retirement from international badminton. He made a comeback to the international stage at the end of 2017, and started a new partnership with Kim Gi-jung in 2018.

Yoo Yeon-seong (Korean pronunciation: [ju.jʌn.sʌŋ]; born August 19, 1986[1] in South Korea) is a South Korean professional badminton player.

He specializes in doubles events and was ranked as high as No. 2 worldwide with his former partner, Ko Sung-hyun.[2] The two also competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics.[3] For a long time he played mixed doubles with Kim Min-jung, but later switched partners to play with Jang Ye-na, starting in 2011. Starting in late 2013, his men's doubles partner was Lee Yong-dae. Together, they reached a world ranking of No.1 in August 2014.

Yoo was among 4 players reported to be retiring and hanging up his national team jersey after the Rio Olympics[4] but during the Korea Open that September, it was revealed that he would be continuing to play on the national team after his partner Lee Yong Dae retired. Yoo said that he wants to spend more time with his family.[5] After he and Lee won the Korea Open title, Yoo played an additional 9 international ranking events but his name was finally removed from the Korean national team list a few weeks after the 2017 Singapore Open.[6]

Ko Sung-hyun (고성현; Korean pronunciation: [ko.sʌŋ.ɦjʌŋ]; born 21 May 1987) is an internationally elite badminton player from South Korea.[2] Ko Sung-hyun is a right-handed player who specializes in doubles events. His current partner in the men's doubles is Shin Baek-cheol.

His best performances to date were at the 2010 Hong Kong Super Series where he won the men's doubles tournament with Yoo Yeong-seong[3] and at the 2010 Paris World Championships where they reached the round of sixteen.

In mixed doubles Ko Sung-hyun and Ha Jung-eun reached the semifinals at the 2010 World Championships where they claimed the bronze medal.[4]

In 2014, Ko won his first Superseries title in mixed doubles with Kim Ha-na at the 2014 Australian Super Series.[5] Ko and Shin Baek-cheol won gold in 2014 BWF World Championships by defeating the first seed and also their own teammates, Lee Yong-dae and Yoo Yeon-seong. [6]

Shin Baek-cheol (Hangul: 신백철; born 19 October 1989) is a mixed and men's doubles badminton player from South Korea.[2]

Shin started to play badminton at the age of 8 in Wallgot Elementary School. He later belonged to the badminton team of the Korea National Sport University before moving to Gimcheon City Hall in 2012.[2] In February 2009, Shin replaced Jung Jae-sung as Lee Yong-dae's partner. They won German Open after beating Japan's Kenichi Hayakawa and Kenta Kazuno.[3] Shin and his mixed doubles partner, Yoo Hyun-young, reached the final of 2010 Swiss Open Super Series in March. They lost to second-seeded Lee Yong-dae and Lee Hyo-jung 14-21 and 18–21.[4] He also won the gold medal at the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games in the mixed doubles event partnered with Lee Hyo-jung.[5]

In 2014 Copenhagen World Championships, He and his partner Ko Sung-hyun created one of the biggest upsets in badminton world championship final history with a victory over their compatriots, Lee Yong-dae and Yoo Yeon-seong 22–20, 21–23, 21–18.[6]

In October 2016, BWF announced Shin Baek-cheol retirement.[7] Shin actually announced that he leaves the Korean national team before the Rio Olympic 2016, but he doesn't confirm that he retire from badminton.[8] After his retirement, Shin were no eligible to enter the BWF international ranking tournament until he has turned 31 years of age, based on the regulations from the Badminton Korea Association. Shin and his partner Ko Sung-hyun then made an injunction to the Seoul high courts by rejecting the BKA regulations.[9] In May 2018, Shin and Ko finally got a chance to compete in the international tournament, after won their one-year legal battle against BKA.[10]
