The Rolex Submariner “no date” technically is the “core” Rolex Sub. In other words, Rolex makes “Submariners,” and “Submariner Dates.” This Sub 114060 is the direct descendant of the 1953 Rolex Submariner and its assortment of “small crown” and “big crown” of successors that launched prior to the first date-equipped Submariner, the reference 1680. Along with the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, which launched a few months earlier, the Sub represents the archetypical dive watch. Unlike the Fifty Fathoms, the Submariner likely is the most recognizable and copied watch design in the world.
