Finally an actual Fatalis video on the channel.

I've been grinding this matchup for a few days trying to get that delicious sub 8. This video went through multiple iterations as I kept getting better times because I just wanted to keep pushing for the perfect run. First it was 8:27, then 8:18, then 8:01... And now a clean 7:38. This could've been even faster if my palico got a para proc but Dry has been such an MVP in the few videos I brought him with me that I can't be upset.

I got "hit" in the second phase but somehow it still went by incredibly quick despite not doing much in it ; it's really just the roaming ballista actually doing a fuckton of damage to Fatalis with both Heavy Artillery 2 + Felyne Bombardier, 96 damage per tick is insane, and I think it has 100 bullets? So that's at least 9600 hit points just gone shooting him in the crotch.

I think Fatalis slammed me because the game/the monsters consider that you are latched on them with the Clutch Claw the moment your claw successfully grapples them, even if your hunter isn't actually on their body yet. It made me lose a few seconds but in the end I don't think it mattered much.

I think this video is one of the best examples of how I try to make my content, this mix and tight balance between speedrunning and getting a great time, while still giving room to breathe to the monster, do camera play, and music or visual editing to add some kind of immersion to the hunt.

This is also, as far as I can tell, the only video on Fatalis with Heavy Bowgun without using the Special Scope. As usual for my HBG videos I refuse to use it because it makes shit unwatchable, and like I said above my #1 objective is to make visually pleasing hunts. So this is yet another niche I'm filling in the Iceborne runs videos on YouTube, because I can't find other runs that don't use the Scope. It's also quite a fast time for not using either the Scope or Heroics, which is what other runners do.

Finally to wrap up this description some thoughts on Fatalis itself ; for a fight that was created in Word Iceborne, it's quite something to say that this isn't just one of the best fights and final boss in the series, but also one of the best "boss" ever created in the history of video games.

Fatalis' sheer difficulty and incredible AI, coupled with being one of the few quests with an actual time limit in the series (something I'll never stop advocating for to make the games more challenging) make it an example of boss design.

Really the only things I regret about it are the 3 gigantic flames near its death which don't really add much to the fight, how easy the cone breath is to bait, and lastly how "static" Fatalis is in a good amount of its moveset.

It's for the majority of the time simply standing tall, immobile and simply using its flame attacks ; though that last point also has something somewhat positive to it, it makes Fatalis look quite nonchalant and intimidating in how it fights hunters, very confident in its fire capabilities, and not needing to move a finger to destroy everything in its path.
