i'm unhauling all of my books 📚

hey friends, i noticed while editing that my camera didn’t want to focus on my face for a lot of this video - sorry about that! i’ll be working on ensuring we’re focused in my coming videos. i think this is because i haven’t filmed in front of my bookshelves in a long time, but i’m no expert…

i am planning on unahuling books as i read from now on to culminate in an unhaul about twice a year. though i adore reading my physical books, i do find myself gravitating more and more toward my kindle so i do want to work on downsizing - plus, i only have so much room on my shelves.

I ended up skipping this month for book of the month, so that’s at least one less book i’ve added to my collection. collecting books and reading books are two different hobbies, but i’m coming to realize that i only want the books i love to be held in my personal collection. i’m working on reading more from my library before simply buying books i think i’ll like. there will be some exceptions to this rule though for authors i already know i love (i.e. riley sager, lisa jewell, cassie clare).

i rate and review books using the CAWPILE method which was created by G at BookRoast. i discovered the system in late 2023 and tweaked the scale G uses to better incorporate the use of quarter stars to fit how i personally want to rate books on the storygraph. i found that CAWPILE gives me a better way to critically think about the books i'm reading so that i'm not only rating on enjoyment.

i tend to focus very heavily on character development in these reviews, as i find characters to be the driving force behind the story. this is why i talk so much about characters in my reviews.

i try my hardest to keep reviews spoiler free. if there is a spoiler, every effort will be made to ensure you know where to skip to in the video to miss the spoiler. :)
