MUSIC TEACHING TIPS: This dance is great for primary age children. The words are "Bow wow wow/Whose dog art thou/Little Tommy Tucker's dog/Bow wow wow woof!" The difficult part is where children hold hands with their parterns and trade places. Using those words "trade places with your partner" helps them not to make a full circle. I teach this by having everyone stand in place and say "stomp stomp stomp, shake your finger, hold out your hands, and stomp stomp stomp." Then I sing the song and have them do the movements. Then I add the "woof" and turn around to face the back of the room/outside of the circle. If they're not in a circle at this point, I have them get into a circle and practice. I pair them up and have them hold hands with partners, and then I finally show them how to trade places with their partner so they have a new partner every time. Different movements can be used besides stomping and shaking your finger (if you learned it with other movements). This is great for kindergarten and first grade (elementary school).
