The tactical assault group(TAG) Is the Australian Defence Forces Counter-terrorism unit. TAG groups are structured to conduct offensive domestic counter-terrorist and Hostage rescue operations focusing on direct action,Special recovery, cbrne disposal and Hostage Rescue.Each assault group maintains a short notice capability to conduct special operations beyond the scope of State and Federal Police Tactical Groups.These aims are achieved through various highly specialised skill sets, niche capabilities and supporting Australian Defence Force (ADF) units.

The Tactical Assault Group East (TAG East) is a highly trained unit comprised of members from the 2nd Commando Regiment and supplemented by personnel from the Royal Australian Navy’s Clearance Diving Branch
