Hoka Bondi 6 - First Run

The Bondi 6 is Hoka's most cushioned road shoe, and as I wind down my 6th consecutive 80 mile week, I was really looking forward to testing it. But it wasn't quite what I was expecting. I was expecting a mushy, cushy, borderline sloppy shoe. But what I got was something that was more like a taller Clifton. And in a lot of ways, this is really good. But a downside of this is that it really seems insulate me from the road surface I'm running on. And it makes me feel disconnected in a way that will take some getting used to.

In the later miles of today's run, I started to feel a bit more nuance to the shoe and more of that cushioned feel start to come through. And this was a bit more mushy, and a bit more cushy, and overall, I like how things are developing. I think it's going to be a shoe that takes a bit of breaking in to really get a feel for what it's about, and as the miles add up for me over the next several weeks, I'm hoping that this is exactly the shoe that I need.
