It is vital that professionals who form the high-performance resuscitation team know what their role is, how to function within their role, and how to communicate effectively in order to fulfill the goals and objectives of increasing the chance for a patient to survive a cardiac arrest event. Successful communication between team members includes the following elements: Being clear of roles and responsibilities, knowing limitations, constructive interventions, knowledge sharing, summarizing and reevaluating during a resuscitation, performing “closed-loop” communications, using “clear messages” and practicing mutual respect.
