Little Shop of Horrors | Cut Song Medley | Alan Menken

Описание к видео Little Shop of Horrors | Cut Song Medley | Alan Menken

Here is composer Alan Menken performing a medley of songs cut from Little Shop of Horrors, a collaboration with lyricist Howard Ashman, during the June 27, 2016 "Little Shop of Horrors Reunion: Off-Broadway, Broadway, and Beyond!" concert held at Feinstein's/54 Below.

This video was shot, edited, and originally released by Broadway World. Their original, unedited release can be found here: http://www.broadwayworld.com/article/...

This medley includes. . .

AUDREY II SONG: Written for Howard and Alan's original treatment of the score, which was much closer to the tone of the original film. Though this first treatment was abandoned, this song was later brought back for various drafts of the film's screenplay, sung by a group of singers and dancers during "Seymour Krelborn's Gardening Tips," though it was also later cut. For the first anniversary of the original production, Howard rewrote the lyrics to celebrate the cast and crew. The song was recorded and copies were given to the cast and crew as a gift.

ALL GONE: Sung by the company. The original finale for the show, the song was later replaced by "Don't Feed the Plants" in an effort to make the metaphor and moral of the show more clear. Alan would latter recycle the music from this song for "Bad Like Me," a song written for (but cut from) the film.

A LITTLE DENTAL MUSIC: Sung by Crystal and Ronnette (Chiffon had not yet been written) in Orin's waiting room, waiting to get dental work done, after "Feed Me (Get It)." Seymour would join the two on the waiting room's bench halfway through. Alan allowed the song to be restored only once, for his daughter's high-school production.

I FOUND A HOBBY: An early attempt at a song for Orin, and to be sung to Seymour as the demented dentist works on his teeth. Was later replaced by "Dentist!"

THE WORSE HE TREATS ME: An early attempt at a song for Audrey. Present in only very early drafts of the show, it was to be sung by Audrey, after being handcuffed to a tree by Orin (who's walked off with Seymour to admire the Plant) to an indignant Crystal and Ronnette in an effort to explain her relationship. Though sung as a solo here, in the early versions of the script, Crystal and Ronnette join in to comment the messed up relationship and to try and convince Audrey to leave Orin for Seymour.

WE'LL HAVE TOMORROW: A ballad written for late in act two, set between "The Meek Shall Inherit" and "Suppertime II." To be sung by Seymour, joined by Audrey for the second verse, Seymour tries to convince Audrey, and himself, that everything will turn out okay. Loved by both Alan and Howard, the song was cut because the show already had "Suddenly, Seymour" and Howard felt that the second act couldn't support two ballads.
