The Karnataka government has invoked the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) against the ongoing and proposed protest by transport workers, issuing strict orders to prevent any strike or agitation. As per the government notification, transport employees have been barred from staging protests for the next six months, warning of strict action against those violating the order.

The decision has sparked strong reactions from transport workers’ unions. Transport leaders have openly stated that they are not afraid of ESMA, asserting that their struggle is for legitimate and just demands. Speaking to Ashwavega News, transport leader Ananth Subbarao said that the union would hold discussions with workers and decide the next course of action collectively.

“We are not scared of any government order. The government must fulfill the rightful demands of transport workers,” said Ananth Subbarao, adding that intimidation will not suppress the voice of workers. The leaders also cautioned the state government against ignoring the grievances of employees who play a crucial role in maintaining public transport services.

ಸಾರಿಗೆ ಕಾರ್ಮಿಕರ ನ್ಯಾಯಯುತ ಬೇಡಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ಈಡೇರಿಸದೇ ಎಸ್ಮಾ ಅಸ್ತ್ರ ಪ್ರಯೋಗ ಮಾಡುವುದು ಸರಿಯಲ್ಲ ಎಂಬ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ ವ್ಯಕ್ತವಾಗಿದೆ. ಸರ್ಕಾರ ಮತ್ತು ನೌಕರರ ನಡುವಿನ ಈ ಸಂಘರ್ಷ ಮುಂದಿನ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವ ತಿರುವು ಪಡೆಯಲಿದೆ ಎಂಬುದರ ಮೇಲೆ ಎಲ್ಲರ ಗಮನ ಇದೆ.

The situation remains tense as the government insists on maintaining essential services, while workers demand fair treatment and resolution through dialogue.
