STORYLINE:
Europe's defence strategy was at the heart of a meeting between several EU leaders gathered in Munich on Friday.

Speaking to journalists following a trilateral meeting with his German and Polish counterparts held on the side lines of the Munich Security conference, French President Emmanuel Macron praised the continent's "strong investment" to reinforce the NATO alliance's Eastern flank.

The conference in Germany has seen leaders including from the US, the EU, the UK come together to discuss the next steps in supporting Ukraine as the Russian invasion nears its one-year anniversary.

For the first time in two decades, Russian leaders were not invited to the Munich Security Conference, a yearly gathering of world leaders, politicians and security experts, which opened with a video address by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
