Restorative justice philosophy holds victim involvement as central to a just response to harm and crime. Yet, research demonstrates that restorative justice practices too often fall short of their promise to victims. What do we know about how victims experience restorative justice services? What needs remain unaddressed? And how can leaders and practitioners in restorative justice be guided by the research in designing programs and delivering services that best meet victims’ needs? Join us in this upcoming free webinar to gain fresh perspectives on these questions.

With support from the Department of Justice Canada, the Alberta Restorative Justice Association (ARJA) invited a team of experienced restorative justice researchers and practitioners to create the newly-released resource entitled Serving Crime Victims Through Restorative Justice: A Resource Guide for Leaders and Practitioners. Drawing on key themes from the Guide, this webinar will:

• Explore the research on victims’ experiences in restorative justice;
• Highlight key elements of restorative justice that contribute to victims’ wellness;
• Propose new ways of understanding the role of the facilitator, and unpack the obstacles and challenges facilitators face; and,
• Introduce innovative concepts and strategies for program leadership and design.

On behalf of ARJA and the research team who authored the Guide, this webinar is presented by Canadian restorative justice specialists Alan Edwards and Aaron Lyons. Both presenters have long experience working with victims and survivors through restorative justice, and have delivered frequent training seminars and workshops across Canada.
