We are leaving Lake como towards our next destination : Lake Garda. We also visit the famous Strada della Forra

Lake Garda, Italy’s largest lake, sits between the Alps and the Po Valley, blending dramatic mountain scenery in the north with gentle rolling hills and vineyards in the south. Its shores are lined with colorful villages, medieval castles, olive groves, and lemon terraces, while the sparkling blue waters make it a paradise for sailing, swimming, and lakeside relaxation.

The Strada della Forra on Lake Garda is often called “the most beautiful road in the world” (Winston Churchill’s words), and it really feels like a cinematic ride carved straight into the rock. Here’s the flow of the route:

Starting from Tremosine sul Garda (near Limone/Tremosine area)

The road begins climbing steeply from the lake’s edge, immediately diving into a dramatic gorge carved by the Brasa River.

Narrow, twisting lanes pass through rock tunnels, stone arches, and sheer cliffs, with the sound of rushing water below.

The atmosphere is mysterious and intimate—half hidden in shadow, half flashing in sunlight.

Through the Forra Gorge

The road snakes along the gorge walls, with sections so tight they feel carved for a single car at a time.

Moss-covered rocks, dripping water, and sudden shafts of light give it a wild, almost otherworldly character.

On a motorcycle, every bend feels like threading through a natural canyon; in a car, the closeness of rock adds to the thrill.

Emerging Above the Gorge

After the gorge, the road opens up to balconies over Lake Garda, offering jaw-dropping views of the deep blue water far below and the mountains rising on the opposite shore.

The contrast between the dark, enclosed gorge and the sudden vast lake panorama makes the ride unforgettable.

Arrival at Tremosine Plateau

The route finishes on a calmer plateau, where the air is filled with the scent of olive trees and Mediterranean vegetation.

The little villages here feel tranquil and timeless compared to the intense road you just experienced.

Strada della Forra is not about speed or height like Stelvio or Gavia, but about drama, intimacy, and surprise—a blend of hidden gorge magic and breathtaking lake views. It feels less like a road and more like a secret passage carved by nature.
