When it comes to wild rainbow trout fishing in some of the most remote and seldom fished rivers left on the planet, one cannot help but think of Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula. A step back in time and what Alaska must have been like many decades ago, Kamchatka offers the adventurous angler action packed fly fishing for truly wild rainbow trout, many of which will stretch the tape at over two feet. WTA works with the pioneers in Kamchatka trout fishing trips. In fact, they pioneered the first fishing expedition there in the early 1990’s and have been offering fishing trips there ever since. These remote float fishing trips are truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience on some of the most pristine rivers left in North America. Kamchatka stirs the imagination with thoughts of bears, volcanoes, geysers, and big rainbow trout. Those lucky anglers who have fished here never stop talking about flying in helicopters to fish virgin rivers, eating great meals around the campfire, and of course catching lots of big rainbows! The peninsula is about the size of California. It’s a fairly roadless area with only one road that goes north to south. Your trip begins with arrival in Petropavlosk, then a helicopter flight to the river. Each day begins with a hot breakfast followed by wade fishing the river and catching plenty of big wild rainbows. Shortly after, camp is broke (by the staff) and you float fish down the river (two guests per raft plus your guide), getting out to wade fish at times. Camp is set up at a different location throughout the week, and your fishing new water each day. You’ll break for lunch at mid day, and enjoy a hot supper each evening. There’s never any shortage of fishing time as your day is always spent along the river. Besides the amazing rainbow trout fishing, there are also multiple species of pacific salmon available (at times) plus arctic char. These movable camps are the most comfortable in Kamchatka, and allow you to float any section, take your time fishing every hole, cover any distance of a river, and even explore new rivers on the peninsula that could turn out to be the best fishing river in Kamchatka. The huge cook tents allow the entire group to sit around a table to share their fishing stories and enjoy three warms meals prepared by their own personal chef. The authentic Russian meals are an experience that not only delights your taste buds, but adds to the Russian experience. The roomy four man tents, for two people, or two man tents for a single person and extra thick mats, give you the added comfort after a hard day of fishing.
