A trip through Active Pass sped up 32 times. This is part of the BC Ferries ride from Swartz Bay (Vancouver Island) to Tsawwassen on the mainland. On the left is Galiano Island, on the right is Mayne Island (both are part of the Gulf Islands). I changed the camera direction partway through the pass, to see a ferry coming the opposite way.

As a youngster I (and likely many others) had assumed the name "Active Pass" meant that the pass was very busy with lots of ships and boats passing through it. However, it was named after the USCS Active, an American Navy survey vessel, which went through the pass in 1885.

The listed speed of the Queen of New Westminster is 20 knots (37 kilometers per hour), so I did a rough estimate of the time-lapse speed, hence the title of the video.

The Queen of New Westminster went into service on August 4, 1964s built in 1964. It was originally classified as one of the 7 Victoria Class ships, but it isn't considered part of a class of ship anymore, since it had significant upgrades.
