Join Vanguard’s Chief Solutions Architect, Rich Anakor, as he shows us his team’s journey with OpenTelemetry and Honeycomb, and the benefits to both developers and Vanguard’s customers. In migrating from data centers to the public cloud, (using the private cloud along the way), Rich knew that the current APM solution did not scale for this kind of complexity.

After evaluating multiple approaches to distributed tracing, Vanguard ultimately landed on using OpenTelemetry & Honeycomb. Now they have hundreds of teams using Honeycomb, with a different mentality to the way they run and manage production. One example is a team using SLOs for a critical service. A burn alert came through. They were able to remediate this issue before it became customer-impacting.

Honeycomb has really changed the way Vanguard does business. It's changed the way their engineers work, making them more productive. “We no longer have to convince everybody that this is a good thing. Everyone wants to join the movement.”
