US Secretary of State has sent some updates regarding the National Interest

Exceptions (NIE) for those of you that have been physically present in China, Iran, UK, the Schengen Area Countries, Ireland, Brasil or South Africa during the 14 days to your arrival to the US.

As of April 26, 2021, those of you who are seeking to come to the US to provide vital support for critical infrastructure needs, or students, or journalists, and academics that are covered by exchange programs, can qualify for the for NIE as follows:

📌Students and academics can qualify only if the Academic program begins on August 01, 2021 or later.

For those of you that hold a valid F1 visa or an M1 visa and you are coming to the US to continue or to begin a program that starts on August 01,21, then you do not need to apply for a NIE at the US Consulate or Embassy abroad.

You can just travel to the US if your academic program begins on
August 01,2021 or later and present yourself for admission at the
US customs and border protection without having to obtain a NIE prior
to your arrival.

Those of you who do not have a valid F1 visa or M1 visa in your passport
you will need to contact the nearest US Consulate or Embassy and
enquire about visa services if your program is going to begin on
August 01, 2021 or later.

If you are found to qualify for a visa interview, then you will automatically be
considered for a National Interest Exception to travel.

📌 Travelers with valid visas in the appropriate category or with a valid ESTA Authorization under the Visa Waiver program should contact the nearest US Consulate or Embassy abroad before travelling to the US if they believe they can qualify for a National Interest Exception.

If a NIE is approved then you can travel to the US on the ESTA Authorization or the valid visa.

📌The US Department of State continues to grant NIE to those of you
that are travelling to the US for purposes related to humanitarian travel,
public health response or national security.
