Описание к видео October 15 - Saint of the Day: Saint Teresa of Avila - Mystic and Doctor of the Church

October 15th - Saint of the Day: Saint Teresa of Avila

Today, we celebrate Saint Teresa of Avila, also known as Saint Teresa of Jesus, a Spanish Carmelite nun, mystic, and one of the first female Doctors of the Church. Born in 1515 in Ávila, Spain, Teresa entered the Carmelite convent at a young age but struggled with spiritual dryness for years. It wasn’t until her 40s that she experienced a profound conversion, which led her to a deeper union with God and sparked the reform of the Carmelite Order.

Saint Teresa founded the Discalced Carmelites, emphasizing a return to a life of poverty, prayer, and contemplation. Despite opposition and health challenges, she established 17 convents throughout Spain and collaborated closely with Saint John of the Cross to bring renewal to the order. Teresa’s spiritual writings, including The Interior Castle and The Way of Perfection, are still considered some of the greatest guides for spiritual growth and prayer.

Canonized in 1622 and declared a Doctor of the Church in 1970, Saint Teresa’s life continues to inspire countless people to seek a deeper relationship with God through prayer and perseverance.
