In this episode of Danger Close, Jack is honored to sit down with a man who has not only touched lives through the screen but has been a tireless advocate for our nation’s veterans and their families - Gary Sinise. Known to many for his portrayal of Lt. Dan in the film Forest Gump, Gary’s connection to the veteran community is far more than a role. For over 40 years, he has stood side by side with those who have served, working with local Vietnam veterans, supporting the Disabled American Veterans organization, and founding the Gary Sinise Foundation to serve our country’s defenders, first responders, Gold Star families, and those in need. His dedication only intensified after 9/11, becoming a lifelong crusade to give back to those who sacrifice so much for the nation.
Today, Gary shares the most personal of stories – the tragic loss of his son Mac, who passed away in early 2024 from Chordoma, a rare form of bone cancer. Gary talks about Mac’s strength, his remarkable creativity, and the legacy he left behind through his music. After Mac’s passing, Gary discovered a treasure trove of his son’s compositions - some songs known to the world, like those from the Gary Sinise Foundation documentary Always Do A Little More, and others Mac had tucked away, as of yet unheard. Out of this discovery, Gary has started a new chapter for Mac’s music: Resurrection & Revival: Part Two.
Join Gary and Jack as they dive deep into the heart of a father’s loss, the power of legacy, and the importance of serving and sacrificing for others. This is a conversation about resilience, honor, and how love can drive us to create lasting impact.
