Tom is passionate about four areas, leadership, learning, technology and collaboration.

Tom was once again ranked #2 Most Influential People in Accounting in Accounting Today's Top 100 Most Influential People list (his eleventh time on the list). He was also named to the CPA Practice Advisor Accounting Hall of Fame in 2015.

Tom believes these four areas are critical ingredients to helping organizations “shape their future” and thrive in this period of rapid change and increasing complexity. He helps accounting and finance professionals be more 'future ready' through his work at the Maryland Association of CPAs and the Business Learning Institute, a center for the development of leadership, strategic thinking, and collaboration skills.

Tom's significant presence in social media prompted Linked-in to recruit him as one of their Top 150 Influencers and he was named to the Top 25 Influencers in Learning by HR Examiner.

Tom and his team have run structured collaboration for the AICPA Major Firms Group (Top 100 CPA firms), the AICPA Leadership Academy and the Maryland Competitiveness Coalition. Tom and his team have lead over 100 strategic planning sessions for the top CPA firms all over the US, along with corporations and non-profits.

One of his top strategic thinking and collaboration tools is i2a - Insights to Action a strategic thinking system that he co-authored with Gretchen Pisano. The i2a process was customized for Sage in their VIsion to Strategy workshops and the national CPA Horizons 2025 project where Tom and his team engaged thousands of participants in a conversation about the future of the CPA Profession.
