Barney was a rescue from Basset Hound Rescue of Georgia. Since arriving to his new home in NC, he was treated like the king that he was. He was a tough basset with a tender heart and silly personality, and in just the short fourteen months that we spent with him, went through more than most dogs will in a lifetime. He suffered a Fibro cartilaginous embolism that left him temporarily paralyzed in his rear legs for nearly two months. Through the use of a wheelchair and some therapy, he was able to walk again, with occasional assistance from my husband or me. Unfortunately, after overcoming the odds that were set before him, he just didn't have it in him to fight the cancer that took over almost a year later. In just four days, we watched as he went from an otherwise healthy dog with a pesty cough, to one that was lethargic, struggling to breathe, not eating and down four pounds. After learning of the tumor between his heart and his lungs, we made the painful decision to put him to rest on August 19, 2015. He was with us just briefly, but his legacy will last a lifetime.
