About the Website:

We are going to be building this website using WordPress.org. It’s going to have a few different pages, with text, images and clickable links. It will have a contact form, so our visitors can send us a message. And the website’s also going to be 100% mobile friendly, so it’s going to look awesome on any device.

You can skip to 08:23 in the video to get straight into building the website.

Please Note: You might notice that it says 2023 in a few places throughout the video, like my websites footer and the “hello world!” demo blog post. These parts were recorded in 2023, but most of this video was recorded in 2024. Plus, I have double checked everything is the same before I published it. So, everything in this video is 100% up to date for 2024 (at the time of publishing).

How To Build A Simple WordPress Website (2024)

In order for us to build our website, we need 3 things:

1️⃣ Content Management System (CMS)

A Content Management System, or CMS, is what we will use to build the actual website.

And for this tutorial, we’re going to be using wordpress.org.

WordPress actually powers over 40% of all websites online.

It’s the same platform used by companies like Forbes, TechCrunch, and Sony for their websites.

And It’s 100% free to for us to download and use.

Note: We’re going to be using WordPress.org in this video, the steps may be different on WordPress.com.

2️⃣ Domain Name

A domain name is usually the name of website or business, with www. before and .com after it.

And it’s what people are going to type into their internet browser, to visit our website.

So, for example www.google.com or www.amazon.com.

3️⃣ Web Hosting

Then, web hosting is where the different files that make up our website will be stored online, so people can access it when they visit our domain name.

How it Works:

1. User types our domain name into their internet browser.
2. The domain name redirects them to our web hosting.
3. The web hosting loads up WordPress (our website).

Now, there are tons of places online to get domain names and web hosting.

But, for this video, we’re going to be using bluehost.com.

Bluehost are a well known hosting company with affordable pricing and great support.

They also offer a free domain name with all of their hosting packages.

And they’re even recommended by WordPress.org themselves, as their top choice for hosting.
