For me this is one of the funkiest lines that Mick Karn created. It's classic Karn too - lots of open string hammer-ons and rakes, along with all sorts of characteristic slides. Rhythmically this is nuts. It's taken me a quite a while to feel reasonably comfortable with some of the rhythms. His part really takes the song to a whole other level tho. It's very hard to imagine it without it. In fact in the one live version that is on Youtube the bass player pretty much replicated this entire line note for note.
