Around 200 historical sailing yachts in the Netherlands have gathered to get the attention of the media and the Dutch government. These ex cargo ships are turned into charter ships in the 1970s. In the Netherlands, there are around 450 of these charter vessels that sail on the IJsselmeer, the Waddenzee and other places. But there are also ships like the Bark Europa that sail around the world and expeditions to Antarctica for example. Due to the current corona pandemic, the government doesn’t allow gatherings of groups. That means it is impossible for these ships to take on any guests. Because these yachts are historical, they are high maintenance. They need a lot of work, money, passion and love from the owner because with ships like these you are constantly working.

The charter fleet called “De Hollandsche Vloot” gathered at the isle of Pampus. With 200 ships they raised their flags and sounded their horns to get the attention of the media and government.

We go on board of charter ship the: “Zuiderzee” Check out their website to book a tour with them somewhere in the future: https://zuiderzeezeiltochten.nl/

And we talk to the skipper of the “Bark Europa: Klaas Gaastra. Keep an eye on their website if you would like to go on an adventure: https://www.barkeuropa.nl/

A film like this takes a lot of work to create and we are happy we found sponsors that supported the cause and donated to cover the production cost so we could give this event the attention it deserved. The sponsors:
