H M S Pinafore (Act 1) - D'Oyly Carte - Gilbert & Sullivan

Описание к видео H M S Pinafore (Act 1) - D'Oyly Carte - Gilbert & Sullivan

"A common sailor? Oh, fie!" Straight from the vinyl of this stellar 1960 recording, Captain Corcoran's words still amuse. 'Pinafore' was the first of Gilbert & Sullivan's successes. It opened on May 25th, 1878 at London's Opera Comique Theatre. Hugely successful, it is popular to this day. Gilbert's satiric wit adroitly pierced institutions and attitudes, while Sullivan's luminous music is--well, ageless.
