Certification vs College Degree | Cybersecurity

Описание к видео Certification vs College Degree | Cybersecurity

After successfully receiving my first official "I.T. certification", I thought I would go ahead and share my thoughts on obtaining an I.T. (security) certification vs a college degree. I am both a college student and an individual who is partaking in the certification process, after having gone through both (somewhat through a college program: halfway), I think there is some differences between the two qualifications.

An I.T. security or "Cybersecurity" certification is focused more on getting you qualified within a particular skillset, all while applying this knowledge through exams, labs, and hands-on training. Employers like to see individuals who are able to say, "I am officially accredited in this area of knowledge."

College Degrees direct their attention on getting a student aware of the various domains of "cybersecurity" all while implementing the fundamentals. You will not see many college degrees which have a student specialize in a particular area of focus (possibly network security, application security, or security management as niches, but nothing too specific). In addition, college degrees demonstrate how you are able to go through a prolonged process (typically 4 years for an undergraduate Bachelor's of Science Degree). Employers like to see individuals who are able to have a college degree as a means of a "filter."

Hope this video helps you through your learning process!
