Thenmala eco tourism:-
Thenmala
Thenmala, which lies at the conjunction of the Kollam-Shencottah road and the Trivandrum-Shencottah Road, boasts of India's first planned Ecotourism destination. It has 10 Ecotourism spots that cover the great hill ranges of Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta and Kollam districts. ‘Thenmala’ translates to 'Honey Hill' and so it is no surprise that high quality honey is exported from this area. The surrounding dense forest is also known for the timber that is in much demand across the country. Its terrain is dotted by forests, rubber and tree plantations and was selected by the World Tourism Organisation as one of the premier eco-friendly projects in the world.

Adventure Zone
Adventure tourists can spend an entire day happily at Thenmala. The whole place is drenched in the beauty and calmness of the forest around. Travellers are welcome to test their spirit of adventure in the Adventure Zone located here. Go for, Nature Trail, Elevated walkway, Lotus pond, Resting points, Mountain Biking, Recreations Rock climbing & Rappelling, River Crossing, Tunnel Walk, Valley Crossing, Balancing Planks, Aerial Net Walk, Burma Bridge, Boating, Water Roller, Gyroscope, Flying fox, Aerial Skating and Walking, Wall and tree Climbing, Archery and Short Range at Thenmala.

Cheerful Leisure Zone
Open from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm
The Leisure zone at Thenmala is a good area to relax as it brings the tourists close to appreciating nature and ecotourism. Induge in Pathways, the winding trails leading to various sites; Riverine, 250 m river front walkway; Sway Bridge, an unsupported bridge made of wooden planks; Sculpture Garden; Parappar Dam, the main dam of Thenmala, built across River Kallada and Resting Points.
Soulful Culture Zone
The soulful culture zone provides a window to get in touch with the lifestyle of the indigenous people at Thenmala, the history of those people, their art, architecture, flavours and other elements that helped shape their way of life. Things to try here are Facilitation Centre, Butterfly Safari, Nakshatravanam, Children's Park, Musical Dancing Fountain, Amphitheatre, Food Outlets and Shop Court.
Deep Woods Zone
For nature tourists who prefer to epxlore the nature trails through forests, this zone would be the paradise. There is scope for tours and trips taking you close to the unspoiled charms of nature. Soft trekking - Guided trekking through the outskrits of Shenduruney Wildlife Sanctuary, Deer Rehabilitation Centre, Boat Ride - boating to explore the greenary of Shenduruney Wildlife Sancutary and one hour boat services are available in one hour intervel. Timing: 09.00 am t0 04.00 pm, Santuary Trekking and Santuary Hiking.
