It's with a smile that I re-post this roll. ☺️ A year ago today, September 7, 2023, I posted my very first piano roll recording, and it was this roll. It wasn't a very good recording, and I've learned a lot since that day. A year later, over 290 more rolls posted and over 115,000 views worldwide, I'm overjoyed knowing that these old piano rolls and time faded songs have been discovered, heard, and enjoyed again!
I purchased this roll at a local antique shop for $10. It's in excellent condition. It was made by QRS in October 1929 as a "Recordo" roll, which was QRS's attempt at providing expression rolls for player pianos. This means there are margin holes cut in the paper to regulate the loud/soft/damper/mandolin expressions a player piano could play. My piano is not an Expression style piano, but it has manual buttons I can (and did) use to add expressions as I played this roll. The roll was originally produced as QRS 4689 in July 1929, with the Recordo roll coming out three months later in October.

My hope is that these songs can now play on for years to come with the striking tones of this beautiful old piano and to be discovered over and over again! ✨️
