The fashion world is in mourning. Giorgio Armani, the legendary Italian designer whose name became synonymous with timeless elegance and understated luxury, has died at the age of 91. The Armani Group confirmed the news on Thursday, posting an emotional statement to Instagram:
“With infinite sorrow, the Armani Group announces the passing of its creator, founder and tireless driving force: Giorgio Armani. Indefatigable to the end, he worked until his final days, dedicating himself to the company, the collections and many ongoing and future projects.”
According to the statement, Armani passed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni paid tribute, calling him “a symbol of the best of Italy” and praising his ability to inspire the world with “elegance, sobriety, and creativity.”
The designer had reportedly been unwell in recent months, notably missing his group’s shows at Milan’s Men’s Fashion Week in June 2025 a first in his decades-long career. Still, colleagues noted he worked tirelessly until the end, overseeing projects with his trademark precision and vision. In a reflective Instagram post shared after his death, Armani’s team quoted his philosophy:
“The mark I hope to leave is one of commitment, respect and genuine care for people and for reality. That’s where everything truly begins.”
