I’m a 16-year-old girl stuck in a custody arrangement that forces me to stay every other week with my father and the woman he cheated on my mom with — who is now his wife. They have a toddler together, and she’s currently pregnant again.

While I was working on a school project with a friend, my father’s wife came into my room and repeatedly tried to force me to babysit her child so she could take a shower. I said no multiple times. She kept pushing, guilt-tripping me, and reminding me of “everything she does for our family.”

Things escalated, and in the heat of the moment, I said that if anything happened to her child, it would be her fault — and that I didn’t care.

My father exploded at me afterward. My mom defended my right to say no but said I crossed a line with my words. Later, my father apologized, admitted his wife went behind his back, and supported me setting boundaries — but the damage was already done.
