I spent sooo much time working on this video. Hey all and welcome the next iteration of the rarely-updated SpyroEdit! (Hey it's 2017 already? Is Spyro still even a thing?)

This isn't my usual style of video sadly, just a preview to show off something I've been working on for many many months. As a side-note, the development of Genesis and its realtime editing aren't strictly for Spyro, it just turns out that incorporating its functionality into the Spyro games is a fun way of passing the time. :) Meanwhile it's slowly shaping up to be the essential tool for my own game development which is its core focus.

The features shown in this video are quite unstable (indeed holding true to SpyroEdit's legacy!), with many thanks to the PS1's limitations and the game's complexity. When it's ready I plan to release SpyroEdit 2.0 first for wider testing, and Genesis will follow once it's more convenient to use and stable. Note that while Genesis can read character models, it can't yet export them to other formats, so don't get too excited just yet :P although I still feel fangames have the biggest creative potential right now compared to these ever-more-hardcore attempts to modify these old games.

Quick Q/A:
Can you create levels with this?
No, not really. But if you sacrifice unwanted parts of the level, you can create new content; there are a few problems however: one is that managing the collision data in memory is tough, another is that Genesis can't change collision surface types.
How well does Genesis work in general?
Pretty badly! I might release another video later showing me trying to mod the Skate Park in Spyro 3, and something else in Lost Fleet. Therer were a ton of challenges I ran into that turned out to be a much bigger pain in practice than in code. In other words I'm finding new bugs every day that are wayyy too regular and annoying for comfortable modelling!
Is Spyro 1 compatible yet?
Not really but never say never :) the fact that I can view geometry in real time will do a lot to help me identify what went wrong when I last tried to give that game texture mod compatibility.
How do I actually use SpyroEdit
Erm, yeah hopefully this time around, the interface will be more intuitive :P but it's also largely similar; regardless I will write up a better readme for the next version!
No but seriously how do I use it
I can't remember. Sorry! It's been too long since I used the ancient broken version that is the released one!
