Nikon 400mm F2.8 AIS with Techart Pro LM-EA7

This video is about Nikon 400mm F2.8 Ai-S. A vintage lens was introduced in 1985. Despite a weight slightly over 5 kg (11 lbs). A heavy lens I usually avoid using. But when used, its image quality always surprises me. Using Techart Pro LM-EA7 adapter with Sony a7R II for nature photography samples.

This is the 1st gen of auto focus adapter for manual focus lens. Since the adapter focusing rail is only 4.5mm is not enough for a tele lens extension distance. For Nikon 400mm, I need to pre hand focus using the tele lens’s own focus ring, then half press the shutter to obtain the final focus. The hit rate is about 10-30%, depending on the movement speed of the subject.
