Heavy rain on saturated areas increases the flooding and disruption #floods #weather #stormciaran

Transcript of this video.

Hi everyone, welcome back to my channel.
The after affects of storm Ciaran, still causing, severe rain on top of an already locked in Tide. Heavy rain on already saturated areas is increasing the flooding and disruption. No one has escaped the deluge.
In my last video on Friday, I showed you in Potter Heigham, today, I have come to wroxham to see for myself how bad it is. Here beside the moored boats, you cannot see where the river ends and the car park starts. It is a mess of water.
I have decided to drive to different locations to see the flooding and of course I would take you along with me. I feel it is important to record extreme weather conditions that we are experiencing here in the Norfolk Broads.
As I think, I have said before, I think to myself, it, surely cannot get any worse than this, but the new day arrives, and the flooding is far worse than the day before. Coltishall is a good example of this. Next I went to Belaugh, which is a beautiful village. It sits beside the river Bure, between wroxham and coltishall. Visitors to the area, never know quite how to pronounce its name as it looks like Belaugh but it is actually pronounced Bee let. I pull into the parking area and I can see that the river is wider due to the flooding and the water is creeping up the slipway.
Next, I go to Horstead and Little Switzerland but I will tell you more about here in a separate video another time. From here I’m so close to the road. I need to go to Norwich airport that it makes sense to go and have a look. It was glorious sunshine, one end of the runway and torrential rain at the other.
Onto St. Benets Abbey next. There is not really any flooding here so I decide to move on to Breydon Water in Great Yarmouth next.
Remember in my last video, I told you how I discovered I had a split in one of my orange wellies as I walked through deep flood water. Well, I have a brand new pair and these ones have butterflies on them and they are from the same company.
I’m going to climb up the steps to the viewing area which is up at the top by the Roman fort and here I will be able to get a good view of any flooding over the marshes.
in Roman times, Great Yarmouth Harbour didn’t exist. There was a Roman fort on the edge of an inland estuary in Burgh Castle. This is where the sea going ships, would dock. The sea level was higher then than it is today , the view would look very different. In the distance is a row of trees and that was the Roman shoreline. The marshes were underwater. After the Roman time is the sea level fell and the mouth to the river Yare silted up. the area changed from the vast open water to marshes. In the 16th century more marshes were drained for grazing and the river banks built up to prevent flooding. The marshes, with drained by pumping. sometimes we’re horse powered, but in time wind pumps like the Berney Arms Mill were built. that mill was built in 1865.
There may be further changes in the future, if sea levels rise or climate change has other effects, will it be necessary to flood the Halvergate marshes by the sea once again?
All this information I just told you it’s been taken from a sign here at the viewing platform.

All likes are for all the businesses and livelihoods affected by this extreme weather situation we find ourselves in. Everyone making a living from the rivers or beside them and are who are unable to work due to extreme floods.
