The Vatican revealed the last hours of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI's earthly life.
Andrea Tornielli, Editor in Chief of Vatican News, recounts what it was like in the early hours of Saturday, December 31, the day Benedict XVI died at the age of 95.
"The last words of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI were received in the heart of the night by a nurse. It was about 3 a.m. on December 31, a few hours before death," Tornielli recounted.
Benedict XVI's last words were pronounced in Italian "Signore, ti amo" - Lord, I love you.
Tornielli explained that the Pope Emeritus "had not yet entered into agony at that moment and his collaborators and assistants had taken turns."
"With him, at that precise moment of the last words there was only a nurse who does not speak German”.
