Hello. This is Charles from Louis Purple. We're in New York, and today I'm going to teach you how to tie the small knot. The small knot has many names, but it's actually pretty simple to do. It's also called the Kent knot or the Oriental knot. We'll just call it the small knot. So this knot works very well with shorter ties, because you don't go over too many times over the narrow end, being more suitable for smaller ties. This is how you proceed. The wide end goes underneath the narrow end, and then you do a twist with the wide end. Holding it firmly with the right hand, you go over with the wide end.

You pull it out underneath. You just go over like any regular tie knot. Pull it down. Don't tighten it too much. Otherwise it's a little tricky to slide it inside the loop. So this knot can be worn pretty casually, and it's actually OK if it's your preference. Last time I was in Italy, I saw everybody wearing the narrow end even sticking out from, a little bit outside of some people [?] and they might think it's a mistake, in Italy a lot of people wear the narrow end coming out a little bit from the wide end. Maybe a little too much. But you can adjust the small knot so that it's not so tight, because it's not a very formal knot. You want to kind of pull it out casually. You can even open your shirt and have it hanging loose like that. This is a casual way to tie your tie and a very simple one to do. So everyone should know it.
