The Book Light is used in cinematography as a way of bouncing and then diffusing light. It allows a large soft source to illuminate the subject. Normally, a large soft source would require a hard source at some distance away, but this technique means it can all fit in a smaller space on set.

For this demo, I used a Skypanel. I would normally use a hard light on flood, but any bright light will work. I was able to box the light in with a few Polyboards so that there was no spill, but this is not entirely necessary. Black Flags are a must on any shoot.

You should always use Negative fill on the other side of the face. I had a studio with black curtains which is very much like having giant Black Flags.
