Won't Get Fooled Again | The Who | Gothik Serpent Cover

Otherwise known by many as the CSI: Miami song, Won't Get Fooled Again by The Who (Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend, John Entwistle, Keith Moon) is a cynical political anthem that's become more relevant today thanks to its cautionary message against revolutionaries. Aside from its uniquely nuanced themes, its a monster of a song thanks to its extended eight minute length, frantic drums, chugging guitars, acrobatic bass, and of course that iconic scream. In short, it's the perfect rock n' roll tune.

The Gothik Serpent rendition aims to modernize this classic with a more upfront mix that takes more inspiration from its live performances, particularly the one from the Concert For New York City in 2001. Compared to other songs I've done, I kept things simpler by having a single lead guitar track to better articulate the highly rhythmic parts, leaning more on letting the performances rather than production carry the song. The result is, I hope, a punchier and modern sounding tribute to one of the greatest tunes of the 20th century.
