An estimated 600,000 people in East Timor, just under half its total population, turned out in the sweltering heat on Tuesday for an open-air Mass with Pope Francis. The scene... a vast sea of yellow and white umbrellas as the faithful braved the sweltering heat to see the 87-year-old pope. 97% of East Timor's population identifies as Catholic -- the highest proportion outside Vatican City. The country has deep ties to the Church, which has been influential in its brutal, decades-long struggle for independence. That link has been overshadowed by accusations of clerical sexual abuse. On Monday, the pope issued a call to "do everything possible" to prevent such abuse. CNN's Kristie Lu Stout reports.
