Описание к видео Meet Zhuwao, Mugabe's Nephew Who Leaked Hidden Truths About the Late President's Final Days in Exile

Patrick Zhuwao, a former Zimbabwean minister and nephew of the late President Robert Mugabe, recently shared a poignant account of his uncle’s final days in self-imposed exile in Singapore. This narrative starkly contrasts with the image of the once-defiant Mugabe, who ruled Zimbabwe with an iron fist for 37 years, famously declaring that only God could remove him from power.
‎Zhuwao described a frail and isolated 95-year-old Mugabe, who was forced to seek refuge in Singapore after many of his former allies turned against him, leading to immense mental strain. Unlike the powerful figure he once was, Mugabe rented his own accommodation in Singapore, without a doctor or nurse present. His wife, Grace, and their son, Tinotenda, had to assist him with basic needs such as bathing and feeding. Furthermore, Mugabe had to rely on Singapore’s equivalent of Uber, called Grab, for hospital visits.
‎
‎According to Zhuwao, the turning point for Mugabe was the way the current government, led by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, treated him after his ousting in the 2017 coup. Zhuwao claimed that the government resorted to airing negative content about Mugabe on local television, which emotionally devastated him. Seeking peace of mind, Mugabe chose to leave Zimbabwe and live in exile.
‎
‎This portrayal differs from previous reports that suggested Mugabe had sought medical treatment at Singapore's prestigious Gleneagles clinic. Zhuwao explained that although Mugabe had been in Singapore for five months, only the last five days of his life were spent in hospital care. Mugabe’s exile and the neglect he experienced after his removal from power are significant points of lament for Zhuwao and other members of the G40 faction, including Saviour Kasukuwere.
