The Italy 1990 World Cup final was just about to begin. Helmut Kohl, Luciano Pavarotti, Luca di Montezemolo and other celebrities on the stands were about to witness the most controversial final in the world cup history. It was a rematch of the 1986 final, which Argentina won. Germans took their revenge here. Argentina had many of their key players suspended, the most important one missing was Claudio Caniggia who was suspended for two really stupid and useless fouls. First yellow came for timewasting in the USSR game, and the second one came from a deliberate handball in the semifinal against Italy. Gustavo Dezotti of Cremonese (ITA) was his replacement but couldn't do much. Germany was the better team but the penalty that got awarded was scandalous.
