JUNEAU - Mendenhall Glacier; Nugget Falls

What a beautiful time we had in Alaska.

In this video we are riding the shuttle to the visitor center area and then we walk to Mendenhall Glacier and Nugget Falls.

There were many highlights and for sure we have decided we need to go back. In this video we are riding the shuttle to Mendenhall Glacier and Nugget Falls.

Even the ride on the shuttle bus was amazing because we are from Southern California and unless we go into the local mountains, we just don't see this green. Even in our local mountains the green is different, it's a darker green. We also wanted to keep our eyes towards the windows so that if there was any wildlife out there to be seen, that we wouldn't miss it.

Once we arrived at the visitor center stop we had the opportunity to walk around, hike to Nugget Falls where we would be able to see a closer view of Mendenhall Glacier. The hike was pretty easy, with a slightly sloped walkway, some ups and downs, but a pretty easy walk. The distance was 1 or 1.5 miles there and the same distance back.

Being at the falls, listening to the water and seeing the Glacier was magical.
The wildlife we saw on the walk was a few different birds, a porcupine in a tree eating something - I didn't even know that porcupines climb trees!

Juneau is now the Capital of Alaska, the original Capital was Sitka. Juneau has been the Capital since 1906.
There are about 100,000 glaciers in Alaska, not only that but they take up 3% of Alaska, which is approx. 34,000 square miles. Amazing!
