In this episode of Warrior Werks – Whetstone, I share a mail call from Howard, a subscriber and law enforcement officer working for a county sheriff’s department in Texas. Howard originally reached out to do a challenge coin swap, and what I received in return went far beyond that.

Along with a patch and challenge coin from his sheriff’s office, Howard sent a vintage Alaskan ulu made from an old saw and a walrus tusk tip, paired with a custom leather sheath that he handcrafted himself. The sheath features the Big Dipper, representing the Alaska flag, along with my initials on the front and his initials stamped on the back. His gift caught me completely off guard—I was genuinely speechless when I opened it. It was an incredibly thoughtful and generous gift of his time, skill, and talent, combining Alaskan history with Texas leathercraft.

I also share a couple of knives sent by my brother, traded in exchange for work I’ll be doing on a custom knife made by my youngest brother, making it a full-circle family project.
