What looked like to be a questionable severe weather setup the night before turned into a very solid one earlier in the afternoon! Several isolated supercells developed in central Iowa and moved off to the NE/E, each one developing tornadoes. As of this time, there has been a total of 12 tornadoes so far with that number possibly going up after the NWS conducts their damage surveys.

We were able to intercept two tornadoes yesterday. One brief one (only lasted a few seconds) SW of Shell Rock, IA, and the long track one that started south of Shell Rock and ended NW of Denver, IA. From the timestamps, it appears it was on the ground for around 23 to 25+ minutes. - unfortunately most of the time the tornado was not fully condensed, with sometimes only a subtle dust swirl at the bottom, but other times it was quite dramatic. Managed to get pretty dang close to it at times, but when it was at its relatively weaker points. We also saw several barns and sheds get demolished - but thankfully it looked like the damage overall wasn’t very significant. The most frustrating thing about the chase was capturing it - my main video camera was having focusing issues which lead to some of the best footage of the day being ruined. The terrain was also not the best where we were with trees, cornfields, and two river crossings making it difficult. But I still managed to get enough to put together an intense video!
