Other researchers have studied the Sanskrit scripts and modeled a mechanical machine called vakra prasanna yatra, which enabled vimanas to take sharp turns or move like a snake for evading enemies.

However, not everyone accepts the theories of Vaimānika Śāstra. Some critics see it as pseudoscience and an attempt to fit elements of ancient cultures into contemporary narratives. In a presentation at the 102nd Indian Science Congress, a pilot and an M.A. in Sanskrit suggested that the vimanas could fly from planet to planet, which sparked controversy and an online petition calling for the talk to be cancelled.
