STORYLINE:
Denmark's Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary attended the opening of "Business of Design Week" at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on Thursday.
Denmark is the official partner country for the event this year.
Crown Prince Frederik spoke at the opening ceremony, highlighting the links between Denmark, and China, and the importance of design for today's society.
"The mutual inspiration and growth potential in the areas where we complement each other, as well as the differences between us, lay the foundation for a sound partnership between Hong Kong and Denmark," he said.
Crown Princess Mary also spoke briefly, citing "quality, functionality and innovative thinking" as essential to successful design.
The couple later looked around a collection of Danish companies that are showing their work at the event.
The royal couple are enjoying a five-day trip to Hong Kong and Beijing.
They will visit Danish companies with shops and offices in Hong Kong, before flying to Beijing on Friday evening.
