How I Do It and the tools I use:
Program(s): Affinity Designer/Illustrator/Clip Studio (mainly use Affinity)
Draw with: Huion Kamvas display tablet

I set my drawing tools in Affinity Designer to use Pressure (important!)

Vector brush (looks like a paintbrush): I have a custom brush that I usually use and have it set to use pressure sensitivity. I then increase the size or decrease it to get the look I want. I use this mainly for line work first.

The Pencil tool is mainly the same but I turn on the sculpt option for this to continue the stroke if I want to draw in another area and come back to that line and continue drawing. I also have the option to fill in the stroke unchecked/not selected unless I'm doing detail work or want to block in color, then I would turn that on.

For doing individual hair strands always have sculpt option off for pencil tool this is important to have off or it wont work right. Adding a gradient for the stroke will make a simple hair strand effect to add detail.

Hope this little description helps until I can make a better version.

Thanks for watching.
