The Rand's depreciation against the US dollar when it became apparent that Republican Donald Trump was set to triumph in the US election, is illustrative of how volatile the currency can be when it comes to external influences.

As the dollar has stabilised since that time, so too has the Rand gained some ground.

So how important is it for South African investors to hedge against potential market volatility following the US election, more so because US economic policy looks increasingly uncertain and could have a bearing on South Africa's fortunes.
