Jonathan’s background: Jonathan B. Rupprecht is a drone lawyer and a commercial pilot with single-engine, multi-engine, and instrument ratings. He is also an airplane flight instructor and instrument flight instructor. Newsweek, Politico, NPR, Marketwatch, The Independent, Motherboard, and many other sources have cited or quoted him. Jonathan obtained a B.S. from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Magna Cum Laude, and a J.D. from Florida International University School of Law.

Jonathan authored Drones: Their Many Civilian Uses and the U.S. Laws Surrounding Them. He later was an advisor for one of the amicus briefs for the highly publicized Huerta v. Pirker case. He co-authored a legal treatise on unmanned aircraft that is being published by the American Bar Association. FAA where he is challenging the FAA's drone registration rules.

J: Drone technology is growing exponentially. Every component, from plastics used for propellers, to autonomous navigation, to better motors, is experiencing stellar innovation. Coupling new developments with FAA-imposed regulatory conditions, drones will never cease to evolve.

V: We are witnessing the birth of a massive industry, whose leaders will cement their place by continuously improving the concept.
J: In your patent research, have you been able to determine who is leading the pack?
V: I see some astonishing drone-related inventions being patented, and some are surprisingly simple. The most prolific applicants for patent are, of course, the biggest players: DJI, Yuneek, and Parrot. But there are smaller companies that are getting their footing in the patent protection world.
